The British Superbike Championship held last weekend the third round of the 2014 season at Snetterton Circuit, where we saw a double victory for Shane Byrne, in races that were highly interesting and full of action.

The first race was very interesting, but in the end Byrne took his fourth win of the season, placing Josh Brookes in second and James Ellison in third. The start of the race was quite eventful because of the incident between Smrz and Da Costa, but they were not the only ones to hit the deck, as we also saw crashes from Rutter, Wilson and Palmer.

The incidents brought the safety car onto the track, and on the restart we saw Byrne go all out, followed by Brookes, Ellison, Bridewell and Linfoot. We saw an interesting battle first between Brookes and Ellison, and later between Josh and Shane for the win, while James fell behind.

Brookes tried to overtake Byrne right until the very last breath, but pushing so hard on the last lap cost him, leaving the track and letting Ellison get on his tail, who held on to the position but with a very close finish. The top 10 was closed by Bridewell 4th, Kiyonari 5th, Walker 6th, Linfoot 7th, Muff 8th, Hopkins 9th and Waters 10th.

In the second race, Brookes started fired up, taking the first position, followed by Byrne and Bridewell. But Shane caught up to the race leader and passed him, while Josh lost some pace, though he kept up the fight until on lap 13 he suffered a horrible high-side on the exit of the Montreal section that put him out of the race; luckily the Australian got back up on his own.

Brookes’s crash handed Byrne the win on a plate, with all attention then focused on the battle for second between Ellison and Bridewell, with the Kawasaki rider finally second on the winners’ podium, followed by Tommy. The top 10 was completed by Kiyonari 4th, Da Costa 5th, Linfoot 6th, Hopkins 7th, Smrz 8th, Waters 9th and Cooper 10th.

With these two races, the overall BSB championship standings still have Byrne as leader, with 145 points, followed by Ellison 45 points behind and Brookes 60 points behind.

Maximum excitement, next round at Knockhill.
