Pol Espargaró takes pole in Moto2 at the Silverstone GP

Moto2 qualifying once again leaves Pol Espargaró as the fastest rider at the Silverstone circuit.

In a qualifying session held in a fairly calm atmosphere, pole went to Pol Espargaró, who has managed to take a third consecutive Spanish pole, with a time of 2:08.011, the fastest of the entire weekend. It’s a weekend that the younger Espargaró is dominating with an iron fist.

Iannone second: the Italian set his best time in the final moments of the session, with Scott Redding behind him. Both riders are trying to keep pace with the Catalan, but they still have a considerable gap to him. They will surely study their rival’s videos tomorrow to identify his line.

Silverstone is a very linked circuit, and as such it’s crucial to be clear about which corners to sacrifice speed in favour of an earlier exit, and when to do the opposite.

The other Englishman, Bradley Smith, who has climbed in the standings in these qualifying sessions, is less than a second behind Pol, so he should not be discounted at all for tomorrow.

Marc Márquez finished in fifth place. The crash he suffered in the first session must have led him to take this session more calmly, taking steps again so that by tomorrow’s warm up everything will be forgotten and he can focus on the race.

The rest of the Spanish riders seem to have qualified in packs. From twentieth to twenty-third are: Tito Rabat, who suffered a fall that seems to have been without consequences, Axel Pons, Toni Elías and Ángel Rodríguez. Behind them, with Xavier Simeón in between, we find from twenty-fifth to twenty-seventh: Ricky Cardús, Julián Simón and Nicolás Terol. Julito had bad luck again, crashing right as qualifying ended. Due to broadcast issues we could not fully see the crash, and we don’t know how the rider is doing.

Closing the classification is our champion Elena Rosell (34th), very close to Eric Granado (33rd). Lots of encouragement to both of them.

Tomorrow’s Moto2 race will once again be epic. The battle between Pol and Marc will be on track again, but let’s not forget the two British riders Redding and Smith, who want to finally have their day at their home circuit. We also shouldn’t take our eyes off Iannone or Luthi, because we know they grow in races and will put up a lot of a fight.
