The sixth CEV race gave us two Spanish champions, Morales and Márquez, and Guevara's first victory. Torres, Bonastre and Contreras also repeated their wins

The Albacete circuit hosted the sixth scoring round of the Spanish Speed Championship this past weekend. As has been tradition for a few years now, this was also the second date of the circuit on the CEV Buckler calendar, at a track where riders and media alike feel very much at home.

Two riders arrived at this race with title aspirations. Carmelo Morales in Stock Extreme was the one with the easier path, as a sixth place was enough to add the 11 points that would secure the championship. For his part, Alex Márquez had to win and hope that Luca Amato, second in the overall standings in Moto3, would not score enough.

The day began with the Stock Extreme race. Carmelo started from pole, determined to claim his fourth Spanish title. However, he knew that Bonastre, Forés, del Amor or Smith would not make it easy for him, and so it proved. Adrián Bonastre delivered one of the finest rides we have seen on the Suzuki, and held a fierce battle with Xavi Forés’s BMW, while Morales waited in the background. In the end Bonastre won, with Morales 2nd, clinching the Spanish championship, and Forés 3rd.

In the Moto2 category, Jordi Torres left nothing to improvisation. After his failure in the July race, in which he crashed while leading, he came in determined to take the win and prevent Román Ramos from cutting into his points. He took the victory which, together with Dani Rivas’s second place, helped him strengthen his overall position and gain confidence for the final round of the year in Valencia, where the title will be decided against Ramos, who ultimately finished 3rd.

Moto3 began with a scare. Fausto Granton went straight on and hit the protections hard. Fortunately, it resulted only in a broken chin, but the images were truly chilling. The race went to Juanfran Guevara, earning his first victory. Second was the Italian Bagnaia, narrowly ahead of Albert Arenas, who had taken his first pole on Saturday. Alex Márquez finished fourth, already Spanish champion, after his most direct rival, the German Amato, crashed six laps from the end.

And in the Kawasaki Ninja Cup race, the win went to Ignacio Contreras, in a tough fight with Julio David Palao, who at no point could challenge Contreras for the race. Third was Poyatos, but after the bikes were checked at the end of the race he was excluded for technical irregularities on his Ninja, so the podium ended up being Martínez’s. The next CEV date will be in November at the Cheste circuit, although first we will see the European Speed Championship held on 5, 6 and 7 October, also in Albacete.
