New helmets for Hayden and Edwards at Indianapolis
It is common for MotoGP riders, or even those in lower categories, to temporarily change the design of their helmet when they arrive at a circuit that is special to them. The helmet is the most distinctive detail of each rider when it comes to their gear, since thanks to it we can easily identify them and also learn a little about their personality and tastes.
So on this occasion the American MotoGP riders, Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards, have decided to change their style and unveil two new helmets that have little in common with each other. And it’s true that we all know both riders have quite different personalities; in general, most MotoGP riders have a different personality from Colin’s.
Colin Edwards is a true-blue Texan, one of those who love their guns, love their country very much and above all are patriots. So he presents a helmet with stars and stripes in the typical colors of the American flag, and he accompanies it with the SEALs eagle in tribute to the 22 special forces soldiers who died on August 6th when a helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan.
In addition, he wanted to give the eagle a touch by placing a throttle grip in its right talon. Here is a video Monster made, where Colin explains his new helmet:

In Hayden’s case, he wanted to pay tribute to his sister, who recently got married (August 20th), and he carries a photo of the newlyweds on the back of the helmet. It conveys the image of the Hayden family, which is very close-knit and seems very down-to-earth.
