The brand Suzuki has officially been presented for the 2021 MotoGP World Championship, so expectations are sky-high to see the reigning World Champion bike and its riders, Joan Mir and Álex Rins.

The Spanish duo has vast experience with the GSX-RR machinery of Team Suzuki Ecstar, and both have proven to be genuine contenders for everything. Mir finished the 2020 season sensationally as World Champion after a series of impressive performances, while Rins finished very close to third place overall after building momentum in a season marked by injuries.

Joan Mir

The machine features a new design, including the new sponsorship from the global energy drink giant Monster Energy. The bike has been developed and strengthened in recent years thanks to the hard work and behind-the-scenes expertise of Suzuki Motor Corporation in Japan. The goal for 2021 is to keep building on its return to MotoGP in 2015, fight for victories, and defend both the team and rider titles.

Statements from Joan Mir:

This new season promises to be exciting, with many fast contenders. Although I won last year, I don’t consider myself the ‘favourite’ for this season, because I believe there is still a lot of work to do and great results to achieve. Nevertheless, I arrive in 2021 as ‘the man to beat’, and there is certainly some pressure around that. Honestly, I don’t mind; I see it as something positive, because pressure has always given me an extra push rather than holding me back. Once again, it’s going to be a strange season with the COVID-19 pandemic and all the travel restrictions, but I hope things keep getting better, not only for us, the MotoGP™ family, but also for all our fans around the world. I parked my GSX-RR last year feeling very good, the development limitations prevented us from taking big steps forward in terms of improvement, but I trust that the R&D department at Suzuki and our track engineers and mechanics have found some areas to improve.

Alex Rins

Statements from Alex Rins:

I’ve been longing to get back on track all winter! I’ve trained a lot, especially with my motocross bike, but nothing beats riding my GSX-RR. I think this year can be a great one for us: we have a strong team and a strong bike. We are more motivated than ever and we know our bike is capable of winning, so we are ready to fight. The calendar is quite full, despite everything, and there are many fast riders, so the key will be, as always, to have a consistent campaign.
