Moto2: Jordi Torres wins at the CEV Albacete
The race, which had to be stopped due to oil on the track, left Team Gigaset Laglise with the top two spots on the podium, with Jordi Torres taking the victory, followed by Carmelo Morales, so the championship leaders remain at 100%.
In a race that had to end with a red flag four laps from the finish, Jordi Torres has come out on top. Everything pointed to Jordi winning anyway, even if this situation had not occurred.
Carmelo started from pole and, early on, both he and Jordi began pushing hard to fight out the race between the two of them.
Behind them there was a fierce battle between Bonastre, Ramos and Iván Moreno, the latter running third during the opening laps. The riders kept overtaking one another and fighting, as everyone wants to reach the podium.
With just a few laps to go, a crash by Javier Sánchez left patches of oil on the track, which both Carmelo and Jordi managed to avoid. Behind them came Adrián Bonastre and Iván, the latter who could not avoid them and suffered a fairly hard fall, being thrown off the bike by the highside he took, which happened right at the point where the throttle opens.
Joining these two riders was Rusell Gómez, who was also affected by the oil on the track.
Iván seems to be doing well, but he will undergo medical tests to rule out any problems, as he hit the lower part of his back.
Elena, who suffered a fall, was lucky not to be run over. We hope this champion’s fortunes improve from here on.
These are the riders’ impressions after the race:
Jordi Torres (#18) (1st)
Our race plan was, together with Carmelo, to pull away from the rest of the riders, which, although we were weakened, we had to achieve.
I let Carmelo push and followed him; then I decided to pass him because I felt a little stronger and tried to push myself. Seeing that I wasn’t pulling away, he let me pass again, but he was already very tired, so I pushed hard and got away.
Honestly, beating Carmelo at this circuit, which is his lucky charm, gives me a bonus, but it gives him two bonuses ahead of Valencia.
Carmelo Morales (#31) (2nd)
I’m going through a very delicate moment, with two retirements so far in the world championship. My plan for the weekend was to do few laps to avoid physical wear, but the truth is that after the Warm Up I was already tired; I had very little concentration and confidence.
Sometimes when you feel like this you consider settling for second.
During the last laps I found it hard to change direction; my arms hurt a lot and it has been very tough for me.
I want to congratulate Team Gigaset Mapfre Laglise because I think we have already secured the championship and the runner-up spot.
Adrián Bonastre (#23) (3rd)
Third place tastes like victory. Team LS2 Motorrad has worked tirelessly, doing things day and night. I think that if it hadn’t been for a problem at the start, I could have escaped with Jordi and Carmelo.
