Moncayo and Oliveira go all out at Misano 125cc
The Andalucía Banca-Cívica riders have adapted well to the Italian track. Moncayo is still a bit affected by his crash at Indianapolis, and for Oliveira it is a new circuit he has to learn.
The Cadiz rider Alberto Moncayo arrived eager to tackle the Misano circuit. After being unable to take part in the Indianapolis race following a crash in practice and an incorrect diagnosis of a broken collarbone (it was actually a hairline fracture), he put his shoulder to the test and managed to qualify 11th.
For his part, Miguel Oliveira had his first contact with this track, and as the Portuguese rider usually does, he adapted quickly and achieved a good 16th place, which is very commendable given that he did not simply ride in anyone’s slipstream, but instead looked for his own line.
Both riders have been making changes to the bike that have been improving the setup for Sunday’s race, and each of them is ready to give everything in Saturday’s qualifying.
Statements from Alberto Moncayo, 11th (1:45.278):
I think it has been a good return. We started the session focusing on how my shoulder would respond, and although I wasn’t completely comfortable, little by little we set some pretty good times.
In the second session we made some changes and problems appeared with the chassis and the engine, although I wasn’t very comfortable with the riding position we were testing either. The positive side is that we found the solution to the problems and we know where to improve. Santi, my telemetry engineer, and I agree on the points that need improving, so I am sure we are on the right track and tomorrow we will improve a lot.
From today my feeling with the shoulder has been very good and although I’m not at 100%, we’re already going “full gas”.
Statements from Pedro Machado, team director:
Alberto started the first session focusing on how his shoulder would respond, but he quickly felt very comfortable and set very good times. His shoulder is responding very well and he complains more about the pain in his side as a result of the bruises from the crash.
Miguel is also doing a good job. He is adapting quickly to the track, but he needs to find riders to use as a reference, since riding alone makes adapting to the circuit more difficult and slower.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, we will keep working with both riders along the same lines as today, because I think we are heading in the right direction and that we can perform well in qualifying.
