Maverick Viñales takes MotoGP pole at Mugello, Rossi 2nd and Dovi 3rd
Rider Maverick Viñales has taken the pole position in the MotoGP category at Mugello.

The MotoGP World Championship kicked off the battle for pole position at the Mugello Circuit, on the Italian track, where Nicky Hayden is very much present among the riders and teams of the world championship’s premier class.
The first to head out onto the Italian track were the riders who had not managed to squeeze into the top 10 of the combined FP1-FP2-FP3 times. In the first few minutes we saw Barberá take control of the session, but there were many changes, with movement between Petrucci-Crutchlow-Baz.
In the final lap we saw Zarco and Petrucci set a great lap, and manage to place themselves in the first two positions, with the rest of the positions completed by Cal 13th, Barbera 14th, Folger 15th, Iannone 16th, Baz 17th, Pol Espargaró 18th, Miller 19th, Redding 20th, Abraham 21st, Lowes 22nd, Smith 23rd, Guintoli 24th.
And the moment of truth arrived, Q2, with plenty of action on track, with Petrucci as the reference in these early moments, surprising everyone and also seeing Aleix Espargaró crash, who ran out to take the second bike.
The last 2 minutes were madness on track, we saw many changes in the times, with Bautista-Petrucci-Rabat-Petrosa-Viñales, some of these riders being surprises in the battle, but at Mugello anything can happen.
Finally, and after a very interesting fight, we saw Maverick Viñales find his pace and claim pole with a time of 1:46.575, while in second place, 0.239s behind the leader, was Dovi in 2nd… The top 12 was completed with Dovi 3rd, Pirro 4th, Pedrosa 5th, Marquez 6th, Lorenzo 7th, Bauti 8th, Petrucci 9th, Rabat 10th, Zarco 11th, Aleix 12th.
On to the race.
