Márquez has been the fastest in Moto2 at the Catalan Grand Prix

New pole for Marc Márquez at the "home" circuit. The Cervera rider beat Pol Espargaró and Thomas Luthi in a qualifying session that was not as hotly contested as the Moto2 lads usually give us

It was a strange session in the intermediate class, since in the final minutes almost nobody improved their times, unlike what was happening in the other categories. Perhaps the intense heat on the circuit did not let the tyres work well, and they are a fundamental part when it comes to setting lap times, due to the confidence they provide.

In fact, shortly after the session began, we saw a tremendous chatter from the front wheel of Julián Simón. Into the fast corner leading to the finish line, where you have to trust your front wheel blindly, the Dunlop on the Villacañas rider was bouncing uncontrollably, which led to him crashing. Fortunately, Julito suffered no injuries, but his bike will have to be practically rebuilt entirely.

Marc Márquez was the one who best took advantage of the track conditions, and took pole with a time of 1:46.187. Behind him, the Granollers rider Pol Espargaró finished just 0.195 thousandths behind the Cervera man. In third place was the Swiss Thomas Luthi, who at no point showed any sign of being able to beat our riders.

On the second row will be Andrea Iannone, who was 4th, Simone Corsi 5th, and Dominique Aegerter 6th. As for our riders, Toni Elías finished 8th, Tito Rabat 9th, and a surprising Jordi Torres took 11th best time, even beating his teammate Bradley Smith, who undoubtedly knows the Tech3 far better than Jordi. Nico Terol was 15th, Julián Simón 17th, Ángel Rodríguez 21st.

Ricky Cardús, who suffered a very rare crash with Nakagami, getting tangled up with the Japanese rider’s bike and riding attached to it until reaching the run-off area, was 25th. Further back, Axel Pons, still feeling the effects of his FP3 crash was 28th, while Elena Rosell finished 32nd and last.
