Márquez dominates day 1 of MotoGP private test in Austin

The first day of private testing by several MotoGP World Championship teams at the Austin circuit (Texas) has ended with a Marc Márquez who continues to surprise. The HRC rider has been very strong and seems to be adapting very quickly to this new setting.

For almost the entire day he was the dominant force on the timesheets. The 93 has been very consistent in this first contact with the track, and his first impressions are that he has really liked it. With every lap you can push a little harder, and that showed. He closed this first day with the best lap time of 2:04.619, after 55 laps in his log.

Right behind Márquez was his teammate, Dani Pedrosa, who was also very interested in this layout. He went step by step in his first track outing and finally completed 59 laps of the circuit with a lap time of 2:05.047, 0.428s off the fastest.

The top 3 is again for the Spanish riders. Our riders continue to dominate even in private tests, as this third place went to Jorge Lorenzo, who ended the first day early, as did his teammate, a decision made by the Yamaha team. The Mallorcan completed 54 laps of the track, improving lap after lap and setting a time of 2:05.291, 0.672s behind Márquez.

Further back Bradl finished fourth with the third Honda, with a time above 2:06, learning every corner, bend and braking point of the circuit. The last MotoGP rider was Rossi. The Italian took it calmly and was the one who completed the most laps of the track, a total of 68, setting a 2:06.507. That is quite far from the front-runners, but we will see tomorrow on the second day.

It was a quiet test day, except when the CRT MotoGP bike of the US rider Young caught fire. Everything was stopped with a red flag, but it did not go any further.
