María Herrera triumphs in Pre Moto3 at Alcarràs

The Monlau Competición team leaves the Alcarràs circuit with good feelings after the rounds of the Mediterranean Speed Championship, with María Herrera as one of its winners.

The fifth round of the Mediterranean Speed Championship calendar was held at the Alcarràs Circuit. For the second time this year (the first round was in May), the race took place on the Lleida track where, as expected, high temperatures proved to be one more rival to beat. The Monlau Competición team arrived with its full line-up to take part in the Pre Moto 3 race, which once again shared the track with Pre 125 GP, with María Herrera, Andrea Laghi, Remy Gardner, Edgar Gallipoli and Gabriel Ramos, and in the Challenge 80 race with the very young rider Alex Borner.

In the Challenge 80 category, Alex Borner made a qualitative leap at Alcarràs, as he was a full second faster than his usual times. In practice, Borner placed his RMU, with a time of 1:52.6, in ninth position. In the race, he was held back by a poor start and had to fight back through the field. In the end, Borner achieved his best result of the year: a fantastic sixth place.

In the Pre Moto3 and Pre 125GP category, the timed practice sessions went smoothly. María Herrera took pole with authority, stopping the clock at 1:44.1. Laghi followed her in second with a 1:45.4, and in sixth place Gabriel Ramos set a 1:46.4. Remy Gardner was seventh with a 1:46.5 and, a bit further back, in nineteenth place, Gallipoli came in with a time of 1:48.1.

After the lights went out, it took María Herrera only one lap to convince her rivals that her Moriwaki was going to win the race. The rider from Toledo completed the first lap with a two-second gap over the chasing group and, as the race progressed, she kept extending the distance, crossing the chequered flag as the deserved winner by more than twenty seconds.

Andrea Laghi struggled more than usual at the start and was relegated several positions. He soon joined the large leading group and eventually climbed to second place overall. Gabriel Ramos, also in that group, finished sixth and third among the Pre Moto 3 riders.

For his part, Remy Gardner, the winner of the previous round, got away well and showed a very good pace, but a missed gear in the opening laps set him back and kept him from finishing better than ninth, fourth in Pre Moto 3.

Edgar Gallipoli, who had a somewhat inconsistent weekend, lost ground at the start and was relegated several positions. In the end, the Venezuelan crossed the line in twelfth place, fifth in Pre Moto 3.

The next round will be at the Albacete Circuit, one month from now, on October 1 and 2.

  3. Me sorprende el tamaño del escape arrow que montan, es casi más propio de una 600 que de una 250, es muy grande, no sé por qué me imaginaba que iban a ser más pequeños, o tipo trompeta bajo la quilla, o como los de cross de 250 4T…

    1. Hola Guillermo,
