Marc Marquez gana en Assen Moto2

Rider Marc Márquez has achieved his second victory of the season at the Assen Circuit; the Catalan was superb in a race that was extremely complicated due to the wet track conditions.

The Moto2 round at the Dutch Grand Prix was difficult, as the race started wet and finished quite dry, although it then rained again at the end, so there were many changes during the intermediate-category race.

The start was very good for the category leader, Stefan Bradl, as it was for Marc Márquez. The Catalan did not take long to overtake the German to begin a complicated race; however, he was not alone, as other riders also put the hammer down, such as Kenan Sofuoglu, Bradley Smith, Simone Corsi, and several wet-weather specialists.

Little by little the track began to dry out, and these specialists could not maintain pace on dry tarmac, while the leader did not want to take a risk and crash, losing several positions until he was tenth, watching as he was overtaken lap after lap. Later, with the track drier, he regained some positions, but when nobody expected it Bradl went down, recording his first zero of the season.

While at the front Bradley Smith took first place, followed by Marc Márquez, Kenan Sofuoglu, and a Yuki Takahashi a little further back, a quartet fighting for victory in complicated track conditions.

The Moto2 race at Assen, the Cathedral of Motorcycle Racing, was being decided among these four riders. Márquez withstood the attacks of the Turk and hunted down Smith, so the Catalan did not give up and attacked until the very end.

Sofuoglu Assen Moto2

When the track dried out a little more, Márquez overtook Sofuoglu, who was in first position but was having tyre problems, and began to push hard, with Smith glued to his bike.

With 5 laps to go Márquez made his move, managing to open a gap while Smith and Sofuoglu fought for second place. The Catalan opened a 2.5-second gap over the Briton and the Turk, and secured a championship-leading victory.

After some very long final laps for all Spanish fans, Márquez finally crossed the line to take his second win of the season in Moto2; behind him Sofuoglu was 2nd and Smith 3rd.

The Spanish Moto2 riders finished with Márquez 1st, Rabat 7th, Aleix Espargaró 16th, Morales 19th, Cardús 20th and Forés 22nd.

The final top 10 of the race was Márquez, Sofuoglu, Smith, West, De Angelis, Pasini, Rabat, Luthi, Krummenacher and Neukirchner.

Márquez is now 2nd in the overall standings, 57 points behind Bradl.

Now it’s time to head to Mugello.
