Marc Márquez takes the MotoGP pole in Thailand, Rossi 2nd and Dovi 3rd

The MotoGP World Championship has gone out to fight for pole position with great anticipation, since it is a new circuit for everyone, despite the test held a few weeks ago, so the favourites were expected to be seen in action.

First out were the riders who had not managed to place in the top 10 of the combined free practice times, among them Marc Márquez who, after a mistake in FP3, had to go through Q1, so the Repsol rider Honda was forced to go through the first cut, being together with Álex Rins the two fastest riders, and occupying the positions that gave access to Q2. The top 13-23 was completed by Morbidelli 13th, Nakagami 14th, Smith 15th, Aleix 16th, Abraham 17th, Syahrin 18th, Polyccio 19th, Simeon 20th, Torres 21st, Luthi 22nd and Redding 23rd.

And the moment of truth arrived, the 15 minutes of Q2, in which we saw Márquez take his 50th pole, with a time of 1’30.088, and he also became the first rider who, having gone through Q1, achieved pole position in the category. Meanwhile, a spectacular Valentino Rossi, on a circuit that a priori did not suit the Yamahas much, placed 2nd, just 0.011s behind the leader.

For his part, the top 12 was completed by Dovi 3rd, Viñales 4th, Crutchlow 5th, Iannone 6th, Pedrosa 7th, Zarco 8th, Petrucci 9th, Miller 10th, Rins 11th, Bautista 12th.
