Marc Márquez leads the MotoGP FP2 in Qatar
The MotoGP World Championship held its second free practice session today at the Qatar Circuit. The Moto2 and Moto3 riders had their session yesterday, while the riders of the premier class went out today with the question of rain very much present.
The Motorcycle World Championship had its second day of practice today, with all three categories on track: MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3. The premier class riders were the first to get in contact with the track, all under the shadow of rain in the background.
The riders of Moto2 and Moto3 had their second practice session yesterday, leaving only MotoGP, and the dominant rider was Marc Márquez, the rookie from Honda set a lap time of 1:56.477.
The 93 has shown he is ready to make waves in this new category. Without a doubt, Márquez has taken one more step in his learning process, improving on the lap time he set on the first day and leaving the runner-up, Jorge Lorenzo, 0.268s behind, while the third position went to Rossi, 0.328s back. We should also mention that Márquez set that lap with Rossi as his reference, and with a small slide at the end of the home straight, which is quite an achievement for a rookie.
Completing the top 10 were Crutchlow in 4th, Bradl 5th, Dovi 6th, Pedrosa 7th, Hayden 8th, Spies 9th and Bautista 10th. The work the Yamahas are doing is very interesting, with only Márquez able to keep up with them in this second free practice session. The remaining positions were: 11th Smith, 12th Iannone, 13th Espargaró, 14th Hernández, 15th Barberá, 16th De Puniet, 17th Abraham, 18th Petrucci, 19th Aoyama, 20th Pesek, 21st Edwards, 22nd Corti, 23rd Staring and 24th Laverty.
Regarding the Spanish riders: Márquez 1st, Lorenzo 2nd, Pedrosa 7th, Bautista 10th, Espargaró 13th, Barberá 15th. Well done Aleix, being the first CRT rider.
On to FP3 today.
