Marc Coma wins in Egypt for the fifth time

Marc Coma keeps adding to his legend and proving he is the best rider on desert sands by winning the Rally of the Pharaohs.

For the third time this season Marc Coma climbs back to the top of the standings, in an overall classification of a competition; this time it was the Rally of the Pharaohs, in Egypt, where he had already won in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2010.

And to do it he dominated from the first stage, and achieved a haul of three victories in six special stages.

The Repsol rider, who already counts among his honours three Dakar trophies and four World Desert Championships, has shown that this surface holds no secrets for him on a motorcycle.

The Rally of the Pharaohs was an unmissable date for the Catalan rider, and he has already begun his “pre-season”, ahead of next year’s Dakar. In this Rally he faced riders at a very high level, so it is a very good test of his form.

The talisman city on this occasion has been Cairo, where the Pyramid of Giza witnessed how great our rider is.

The next stop is later this same month at the Rally of Morocco.

The statements of Marc Coma:

I am very satisfied. It has been one of the toughest editions of the rally I can remember, which makes this victory even more important. We kept a good pace, although, with a 14-minute lead, we took the stage a little more calmly than the previous ones.

I have very good feelings with the bike, since over these days we have been able to take another step forward in its development. The high temperatures and the technical demands of the route forced us to maintain a high level of concentration.

Physically it has been hard, but it has been good training for the upcoming Dakar. I think we can all be very satisfied, since every member of the team has done magnificent work.

It has been my fifth victory at the Rally of the Pharaohs and one of the most hard-fought, so I am very satisfied with the challenge achieved. In a week we head to Morocco, where I hope we can continue along the same lines.
