Lorenzo, Márquez and Pons in the hands of the doctors
Today we will know whether several Spanish riders will be able to take part in the Valencia Grand Prix, or whether they will have to watch it from the grandstands, as the doctors will review Jorge Lorenzo, Marc Márquez and Axel Pons.
Today is a crucial day for several of our riders who are in quarantine due to injury. For now we have great news: Julián Simón, our beloved 60, will return to the Moto2 World Championship and will get back on his bike at the Valencian track to bid farewell to a difficult season, but one in which he has felt the affection and support of the entire fanbase.
For the rest of the riders, things will be decided today. The doctors will either give their approval or tell them they are not ready to go out on track at the Cheste circuit. The riders who depend on the doctors are Jorge Lorenzo, Marc Márquez and Axel Pons.
For Jorge Lorenzo, the end of the MotoGP season has been very hard: first his crash and injury at Phillip Island, which handed the title to Stoner on a silver platter, and then watching the fateful Sepang event from home. Now the moment has come for Valencia, where he would love to be able to ride out and thank his fans and supporters.
Although everything depends on the doctor and on how his damaged finger has evolved, let’s remember that it was a serious injury with a very intense and complicated abrasion. Today we will know whether everything has gone well and whether the Majorcan will be able to compete in the championship’s final event at Cheste.
The second rider whose situation is in question is Marc Márquez. The Catalan crashed in the first Moto2 free practice session at the Sepang circuit and suffered serious injuries, the most dangerous being the double vision that began to be treated after his return to Barcelona.
Today they will see whether that eye injury has improved, along with the rest of the pain Márquez is suffering, and if everything is OK he will be able to take part in the race and fight for that slim chance of becoming champion.
The third rider we have under medical review is Axel Pons, who has just arrived from Malaysia after his crash in the race. Today he will be seen by the neurologist to check that cerebral hematoma and decide whether he is fit to race this weekend at Cheste or needs to rest after this serious crash.
If we had good news about Julián Simón, there has been none about Sergio Gadea, who will miss this event and will hand his place to Alex Baldolini for the race at the Valencian track, while his future for 2012 remains pending.
Let’s see what the doctors say.
