Jordi Torres takes pole position in Moto2 CEV at the Circuit de Catalunya

The Circuit de Catalunya has kicked off the 2010 Spanish Speed Championship, a competition that comes loaded with新鲜 changes for this season, among them the Moto2 category, which after sharing the track with the Extreme class for a year has taken over and hit the circuit with 33 registered riders.

Although it looked like rain was going to make an appearance, the practice sessions ended up taking place under plenty of sun, so the riders were able to unveil their new machines for this new category on the Catalan track without any problems.

Many experts were watching closely the debut of this new category, since nobody knew who might be the fastest, and it has become quite clear that, for now, Jordi Torres is the best, the Griful Team rider having been number one in every practice session.

Therefore, the Catalan rider on his Harris chassis has secured pole position in this first Moto2 race, setting a time of 1:49.079, more than a second ahead of Carmelo Morales in the first practice session. Afterwards, the Gigaset Laglisse rider got quite close in the second session, but he could not beat the time set by Torres.

In third place is Iván Moreno, the last rider to manage to dip below 1:50, so together with Torres and Morales he lines up as a favorite on his Moriwaki.

Behind them, Santi Hernández closed out the front row of the starting grid with a 1:50.079, so Morales’s teammate finished one second off Torres’s best time and tomorrow he will have to fight against these three riders for the lead.

On the second row we have Dani Rivas, Iván Silva, J. David De Gea and Ricard Cardús, but any rider coming from behind could spring a surprise in this Moto2 debut in the CEV, as could Kev Coghlan or Dani Arcas.

We will keep watching the Moto2 CEV.
