Jonathan Rea was competing in Australia in SBK quite physically hampered

Rider Jonathan Rea did not arrive in Australia in the best physical condition

Rider Jonathan Rea confirmed a few days ago that he had competed at the World Superbike round quite physically hampered, both because of his flu and the pain he felt in his right hand; apparently the Northern Irish KRT rider had undergone surgery a few weeks before the start of the championship.

Rea confirmed on Sunday that he had not had his usual feeling on his ZX-10RR, but he expressed great satisfaction, especially because of how he has felt throughout the week. He has been ill since Wednesday, so finishing fifth on Saturday and second on Sunday, and back on the podium once again, is damage limitation for Rea’s situation.

Furthermore, three weeks before the start of the campaign he suffered a fall while practising motocross and had to undergo surgery on a deep open wound on a finger of his right hand, with no tendon involvement, which required six stitches.

The World Champion and his team chose to play down the incident, but just a few hours after the end of the round, Rea wanted to thank the trauma surgeon Jordi Font, the specialist who performed the operation at the Clínica Tres Torres in Barcelona, and posted a photo of his post-operative recovery on his Instagram account. The surgery took place on Sunday 4 February and lasted barely an hour, but Rea had to remain inactive for ten days to help the wound heal, which required periodic dressing changes during the Australian round week.
