John Hopkins tops the Superbikes Free Practice 1 at Silverstone
Rider John Hopkins has set the fastest time in the first Free Practice session of the World Superbike Championship at the Silverstone circuit, with Samsung Crescent Racing Suzuki posting a 2:06.667.
It’s clear that Hopkins rides as if he were at home and knows the British track very well, since, as we recall, the 21-year-old competes in the British Superbike Championship, so he knows the Silverstone circuit perfectly.
Behind him is Leon Camier, who showed strong pace throughout the session and finished behind Hopkins, being the best British rider at home, while Jakub Smrz rounded out the top three.
Fourth place went to James Toseland, returning to Superbikes in style, as he earned this impressive result after his recovery from injury, which is excellent news for the BMW Motorrad Italia SBK team.
The favourites did not have a strong performance in this first approach to the British track: leader Carlos Checa was fifth, while Marco Melandri was fourteenth and Max Biaggi sixteenth. They don’t seem to be very comfortable at Silverstone yet.
Now it’s time for the QP.
