Javier Forés sets the pace in the 1st round of the Stock Extreme CEV at Catalunya
The last race of the day at the Spanish Speedway Championship at the Circuit de Catalunya was the one for the other category making its debut, the Stock Extreme, so we started the morning with Moto2 and now it was time for the other newcomer of 2010.
The event began with a very strong Javi Forés on pole position, followed by Enrique Rocamora, Javi Del Amor and Santiago Barragán, but when the race started the pole sitter had some problems and was overtaken by several rivals, though he did not lose much ground to the leading riders.
In the end a group formed with Forés and Del Amor, which pulled away from the rest of the field, so it seemed the victory would be decided between these two veteran riders.
Little by little Forés gained the advantage, until he held a gap over Del Amor that was more or less comfortable, while behind them Rocamora was third and rode alone without trouble, followed by Barragán and Hidalgo, who put up a fine battle for fourth place.
When it seemed the positions would not change, with Forés first, Del Amor second and Rocamora third, suddenly on the last lap came a surprise: the rider of Ducati Barcelona, Del Amor, ran out of fuel very close to the finish, allowing the BMW Motorrad riders to achieve a great one-two in Catalunya.
In short, we were able to see a great race with a very strong Forés who kept opening up the gap lap after lap, with Rocamora taking second place and Barragán finding an unexpected podium, while Del Amor had little luck in this first race, although surely in Albacete things will change and he will be able to show his pace.
We will keep watching the Stock Extreme CEV.
