Javier del Amor secures the podium in Stock Extreme at Albacete
Despite a collarbone injury, Del Amor finishes third at Albacete. Xavi Forés was fifth, and López suffered a crash four laps from the end of the race.
Javier del Amor’s race this past Sunday at the Albacete circuit was all determination and bravery, as he took his BMW S1000RR to the third step of the podium in the Stock Extreme category.
Given that only a week ago he injured himself during training ahead of the CEV, tearing ligaments in his collarbone, thanks to Dr. Mir, Del Amor was able to take part in the race, qualifying 4th on the grid.
Javier ran a conservative race but never lost sight of the podium spots, and battled with Barragán for second place until the pain in his shoulder took its toll during direction changes. Even so, he secured a third-place finish that tastes like victory.
The reigning champion of the category, Xavi Forés, had an excellent weekend but without good final results. The short time he had to readjust to the category after his stint in Moto2 took a physical toll, and he ended up in fifth place.
For Alberto López, the crash he had while running in sixth place deprived him of finishing a good weekend successfully, a weekend in which he had qualified well and maintained a steady pace in the race.
Statements from Javier Del Amor:
I want to thank Dr. Mir and the people at CAR for the great work they have done since I got injured last week. This third place tastes like victory, since a week ago nobody thought we could be in the race. I defended my position, but I knew that when Barragán passed me I wouldn’t be able to follow him because I was physically unwell. It was a very important race because I learned to ride with pain and to fight against it.
Statements from Xavi Forés:
It was one of the toughest races of my life on a physical level. All weekend I felt very tense on the bike, and from mid-race my shoulders began to hurt terribly, greatly limiting my riding. I hope to solve this at the European round and fight to win the title.
Statements from Alberto López:
The crash made me very angry, especially because we had worked very well all weekend, and in the race I felt very comfortable. I made a mistake and lost the front wheel. Next time I’ll be more careful, because you have to finish in parc fermé.
