Iván Moreno taking it step by step in Australia
Iván Moreno faces his great opportunity to take part in the Moto2 World Championship, going step by step so as not to make mistakes and to complete all the sessions at Phillip Island.
Iván Moreno is competing in the Moto2 World Championship for the first time in his life, replacing Julián Simón at Mapfre Aspar Team. It is his first time at the Australian circuit, which makes adapting to it even harder.
Despite everything, Iván is doing very well, improving his pace in every session, although he is taking it calmly so as not to rush things. Phillip Island is one of the fastest circuits on the World Championship calendar, and on top of that comes the technical nature of its layout and how bumpy the surface is.
One point in Iván’s favour is the structure he has come across: Team Aspar is one of the teams with the most experience in the paddock, which has helped him a great deal and he feels very well supported.
These are the words of Iván Moreno (#20):
Phillip Island is a very fun circuit, but also quite complicated. It is fast and bumpy, and today I struggled a little to adapt.
I also didn’t know the bike; it is completely different from the one I use in the CEV. We have to go step by step and keep our feet on the ground. It is necessary to know the circuit and the bike well, and when we have everything better prepared we will start pushing hard.
Today I chose caution, because I didn’t want to start on the back foot, but I am convinced that tomorrow we will improve, because we are on the right track. I thought I would find myself in a more difficult situation, but the team has worked superbly to help me understand the circuit, the bike and the category.
