Héctor Faubel delivers the surprise in 125cc and takes pole in Aragón

Héctor Faubel's extraordinary last lap has earned him pole position in the 125cc category at the Aragón Grand Prix. Maverick Viñales and Nico Terol will line up behind him.

When almost everything seemed decided, and it looked like pole belonged to Viñales and Terol, Héctor pulled off the surprise with a superb time that gives him pole and the circuit record. With this, and the good results of our riders, tomorrow’s front row will be Spanish, since Viñales and Terol have lined up behind Faubel.

The 125cc riders were the only ones who escaped the blackout yesterday, so the riders have been able to make the most of the two days and achieve a good setup for tomorrow’s race.

As yesterday, the session stayed calm until there were 10 minutes left. Then the riders stepped on it and everything was played out between Nico, Johan, Maverick and Faubel. With 4 minutes to go, Maverick broke the circuit record with a 1:59.231. But the surprise came from the outstanding time set by Héctor Faubel, who took pole on his final lap by lowering it to 1:59.222.

Tomorrow’s race will surely be a battle between these four riders, with a new edition of the fight between Terol and Zarco, following the bizarre race at Misano with its “incident” at the end. But Faubel and Maverick will surely both want a good result at home, so the race looks set to be a group battle with plenty of fighting.

The rest of the Spanish riders finished in the following positions: Luis Salom 6th, Alberto Moncayo 8th, Efrén Vázquez 9th, Adrián Martín 11th, Josep Rodríguez 12th, Joan Perelló 29th and Pedro Rodríguez 32nd.
