Gallery of the sixth CEV round at Valencia
Here's my selection of photos from the great weekend we had at the Valencian circuit Ricardo Tormo
After the sixth round of the Spanish Speed Championship at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Cheste, held this weekend, the three championships in contention are still undecided.
Everything except the Kawasaki Ninja Cup, which was holding its final race and could not have been closer. Adriá Araujo and Antonio Alarte arrived level on everything. And the title was decided by two tenths, the margin Araujo gained over his rival on the same finish line. Julio Palao finished third.
Over the weekend, the atmosphere in the paddock kept building, helped by the many activities available and also by the free access and the chance to bump into your idols while strolling between the team trucks. We took the opportunity to meet the guys from Zero Racing, who, with their new Moto2 rider Eric Molina, invited us to take some photos with the Marvel superheroes.
One of the features of this championship is the chance to take a walk down the pit lane before the first race. To do so, you have to be among the first 100 to arrive at the circuit on Sunday and register at the Halcourier tent. Apart from the pit walk, you get VIP treatment, as you can access the team’s hospitality, eat something and meet its riders.
In the Moto2 category, we witnessed for the first time Isaac Viñales’s victory, with Román Ramos joining him on the podium and Jordi Torres third. Carmelo Morales, who is fighting for the title with Jordi, finished 8th after crashing on the last lap. Torres leads him by 13 points, so at Jerez he will go there to defend that advantage.
The negative news was Iván Moreno’s injury. The rider from Cádiz was hit, which threw him off his bike; unluckily, the bike fell on his arm and he fractured his radius, so he will not be able to compete at Jerez or say goodbye to his fellow countrymen on track.
In 125cc/Moto3 we saw the first pole and victory for the bike that from next year all the teams will want. Miguel Oliveira was the one who pulled off this feat, and with the Honda prepared by the Monlau team, with a bunch of HRC technicians keeping an eye on the bike, and Alzamora on the rider, nothing was left over. Behind him came Josep Rodríguez and Alex Márquez.
And in Stock Extreme, another monopoly for Iván Silva, who is completely unstoppable. He took the pole, the fastest lap and the victory, of course. The excitement of the race was in the battle between Xavi Forés on the BMW and Santiago Barragán on the Kawasaki. Iván is very, very close to claiming the Spanish champion title, having won the European title in Albacete a few weeks ago.
Without a doubt, this championship is the true foundation of motorcycling, and if you take advantage of the perks it offers (free access, paddock visit…) I can promise you’ll enjoy a great weekend. So, if you can’t think of anything to do this weekend, how about heading over to the Jerez circuit?
