Francesco Bagnaia wins the CEV Albacete 125GP
Bagnaia wins in a race where his teammates were unable to fight for the championship.
Like that film, Smiles and Tears, the race has been a mixed bag for the Catalunya Caixa Repsol team.
It all started with Rins, who had dominated the weekend with an iron fist in every practice session. He started from pole, but when he took his position a problem caused his bike to stall and he couldn’t get going until several laps later.
Everything seemed to be going the right way in the championship for Alex Márquez, who had his chance to claw back valuable points from his teammate. But once again, bad luck struck: his bike slid out from under him at the rear, and he was thrown over the top of the bike. After the race he reportedly has pain in his shoulder and leg.
Bagnaia took over and dominated the race from start to finish, with Miller comfortably taking second place behind him.
The battle was fought by the three riders who contested third place, Jorge Navarro, Albert Arenas and Josep Rodríguez, but in the end the one who took the spoils was Jorge Navarro of Curvacero.
As for the Moto3 bike of Team JJ Saez, ridden by Daniel Saez, he could not finish the race due to an engine failure.
The statements from the post-race press conference were:
Francesco Bagnaia (#41) (1st)
It was not an easy victory. This morning we had some problems that we were able to fix ahead of the race, and I am very happy.
Jack Peter Miller (#43) (2nd)
I am very happy. Last year I finished twelfth, and today getting on the podium is something to be happy about.
Jorge Navarro (#9) (3rd)
I am very happy. All weekend I had trouble bringing my lap times down. I knew that as the laps went by the bike would move a lot at the rear. I got in front, managed to close the gaps, and in the end I made a pass on a lapped rider that helped me win.
