Laia Sanz doesn’t want to let any opportunity to win slip away. On Saturday she claimed the first victory of the season at the start of the Enduro World Championship, which has been held since Friday in Solsona (Lleida), and this past Sunday she completed the doubleheader by repeating her win over the British rider Jane Daniels.
In this way, the rider seeks to maximize her chances of securing her third consecutive title in the discipline and reaching the record of 16 world championships. Cautious as usual, the Corbera de Llobregat native prefers to take it one step at a time:
We have two victories and six races still to go, so there’s still a long way to go, although starting well always gives you a slight margin for error and a certain peace of mind.
The truth is that Laia Sanz has once again shown a potential that is hard to match on the handlebars of her Honda CRF250, as demonstrated by the fact that in three days of competition she only lost the partial victory in one of the 13 special stages held. This Sunday she finished the race 1’13” ahead of Daniels and 1’27” ahead of Australian Jessica Gardiner, despite having suspension problems.
Halfway through the first lap I broke the rear shock and all the gas leaked out. I don’t know how it happened, but from then on I had to ride only on the spring, which forced me to slow down. Otherwise, I think I would have improved my time. In any case, I’m very happy to have won, and to have done it in such a beautiful race, at home.
Just as in the previous two days, the large crowd gathered in Solsona has unconditionally supported the 15-time world champion. Following the double victory at the GP de Catalunya Enduro, Laia Sanz leads the overall standings of the women’s enduro world championship with 40 points, 6 more than Jane Daniels. The next event will be the GP of Finland on June 6, 7 and 8.
