Dorna talks about the problems with the Austin (Texas) GP

The MotoGP Grand Prix in Texas is in "stopped" mode, and there's no doubt there are many problems for the event that was scheduled for 2013. We'll see what finally happens between Dorna, Schwantz and COTA.

In recent days we’ve learned about the situation of Kevin Schwantz and his company 3four Texas MGP LLC in relation to the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), since the 500cc World Champion has filed legal action against COTA, and one of the parties involved in this issue is Dorna. For this reason, the organizer of the World Motorcycle Championship has decided to make a simple statement regarding the whole mess that has been created in the United States.

Dorna reports that they signed a contract with the promoters 3four Texas MGP LLC for the organization and preparation of what would be the World Championship MotoGP Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas, Austin, Texas, all of which was signed on February 11, 2011, with the project being for the 2013 season. It became known that the promoter had an agreement with COTA to hold that motorcycle world event.

In the first days of June 2012,
Dorna required 3four Texas MGP LLC to inform it and provide satisfactory evidence that all the agreements, licenses and documents necessary for the World Championship event were in place, all before June 28. This is a standard procedure when the promoter is not the owner of the track. And here is where it gets complicated, since the promoter was not able to show that evidence to Dorna.

Apparently the agreement between the promoter 3four Texas MGP LLC and the owner of the circuit, COTA, had not been closed. This whole situation led Dorna to make a difficult decision: to terminate the contract for non-payment, with the termination taking effect on July 2, 2012. Even so, both Dorna and the FIM are interested in the FIM MotoGP Grand Prix in Texas taking place, so they have spoken with COTA and offered it the possibility of being the promoter, through a promoters’ agreement, but for the moment there is no confirmation; they are still talking about it.

A lot of mess in Austin; we’ll see what finally happens.
