Day 2 of IRTA Moto2 and Moto3 test in Valencia
The Moto2 and Moto3 riders made the most of this second day of the IRTA test at the Cheste Circuit, although track conditions were still quite cold.
The official pre-season second day of testing for the Moto2 and Moto3 World Championship at the Cheste Circuit ended with Scott Redding as the fastest rider in the intermediate class and Sandro Cortese as the best in the new world championship category.
Once again, the cold meant that most riders took quite a while to head out on track. The first to get acquainted with the Valencia circuit were Gino Rea, Ratthapark Wilairot and Moretti, among others. Little by little, the riders headed out to Cheste to continue testing on this second IRTA training day for Moto3 and Moto2.
In the intermediate class, Briton Redding dominated once again. It seems the 45 has adapted very well to his Kalex of the Marc VDS Racing Team, setting laps of 1.35.6, less than a second off the time set by Randy de Puniet on this same track with his Aprilia CRT. So the Moto2 bikes work, and all of this in cold track conditions.
Behind him, Andrea Iannone seems to have placed about 2 tenths back, and a little further back, already over 1.36, Claudio Corti, with Thomas Luthi 4th and Simone Corsi 5th completing the top 5. For his part, the best Spaniard appears to have been Rodri, the SAG rider, who rode at full pace with his FTR on the Valencia track and improved considerably compared to the first day.
In the Moto3 category, the fastest was again Sandro Cortese
Closing the top 5 of this second day were Kent with a 1.41.5, followed by Héctor Faubel with a 1.41.8, improving by about 7 tenths from yesterday, and finally Oliveira with a 1.41.8.
A little further back, in 12th position, Efrén Vázquez placed, and in 16th Adrián Martín. For now, these are the unofficial times that have come in from the riders in Valencia, and it seems everyone is gradually improving with their respective machines.
There were also some crashes on this second day, with scares for Axel Pons, Tito Rabat, Pol Espargaró, Johann Zarco, Eric Granado and Álex Márquez. Luckily none of these falls had physical consequences, unlike yesterday, when Isaac Viñales ended up at the Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona with a badly hurt foot; it seems to be a fracture.
