CEV training in Albacete ahead of its fifth round

Today the private practice sessions ahead of the fifth round of the Spanish Speed Championship took place at the Albacete circuit. As these were unofficial sessions, no times have been published, so we won’t know how the riders performed until tomorrow.

The highlight was seeing the novelties this event has brought. The debut of the first Moto3 in the 125cc category, with Daniel Sáez at the controls, Elena Rosell’s debut on the Moto2 of Team Laglisse, and the return of Xavi Forés to BMW in Stock Extreme, sporting the number 1 he earned the hard way last year.

The Moto3, the category that will replace 125cc from next year, makes its CEV debut this way, racing with the bikes it will replace. Its design is very similar to the 125cc. What stands out most is the sound, as the 4-stroke engine has a much deeper tone than the Moto2s. Tomorrow we’ll be watching the lap times Sáez sets, to make a more thorough comparison of the advantages and drawbacks of this new category.

In Moto2, we saw Elena Rosell make her CEV debut, riding one of the Team Laglisse bikes but in a separate structure, with the support of Mapfre and Powerade. Sunday’s race will serve Elena as preparation for her return to the world championship as a wild-card in two weeks at the Aragón round. Tomorrow we’ll see how she adapts to the category and how her times look.

The Kawasaki Ninja Cup race also takes place, featuring the participation of rider Ana Belén Mulero, who was selected in the contest ClubMoto1 ran among its members to give her the chance to race in a professional championship.
