Casey Stoner unstoppable at Motorland with Pedrosa 2nd and Lorenzo 3rd

MotoGP rider Casey Stoner has taken victory at the Motorland Aragón circuit, marking the 100th win for Repsol Honda; while Pedrosa finished 2nd and Lorenzo 3rd.

MotoGP rider Casey Stoner secures his eighth win of the season. The Australian was unstoppable at the Motorland Aragón circuit and claimed Repsol’s 100th victory Honda, which also marked the track’s 40th anniversary celebration with that Davidelfin design.

Stoner was unbeatable from practice at the Alcañiz track. The truth is that the 27 had no rivals this weekend: from the start he imposed his pace and rode a flawless solo race to take his eighth win of the season.

Behind Stoner, Dani Pedrosa finished second. The Catalan got off to a very good start, but was passed by Ben Spies and Casey Stoner at the first corner. The 26 later recovered and passed the American, but could not keep up with his teammate, who pulled away tenth by tenth every lap.

Completing the podium was Jorge Lorenzo, who had a poor start to the race, with his teammate Ben Spies ahead of him and also Marco Simoncelli during the race. The 58 made a mistake, and the Mallorcan was able to recover the position. At that point he began his comeback. It seemed that with a emptier fuel tank the Yamaha was going better, and he managed to reach the 11 and pass him, taking third place, but he could not get close to Pedrosa.

The fourth place went to Marco Simoncelli, who rode a good race, but made a mistake when he was third and had to settle for fourth. Meanwhile Spies had problems in the final part of the race and lost two positions due to his tyres.

Behind, Álvaro Bautista finished sixth, Nicky Hayden seventh and Héctor Barberá eighth. These three riders gave us a great fight for sixth place, especially the Spaniards, with the 19 being the best of them. Barberá put up a strong fight but in the end could not hold off Hayden’s last attack, although it was a very good race for the 8.

Crutchlow ninth, Rossi tenth, Aoyama eleventh, De Puniet twelfth and Edwards thirteenth, closing the race finishers, since there were crashes involving Abraham, Dovi, Capirossi and Elías.

A bad day for Rossi. Due to his seventh engine he had to make a good comeback, and was achieving it, but he stalled behind Crutchlow and Aoyama, unable to bring his lap times much below 1:52.

The scares of the day were for Abraham, who took a heavy knock, and we are still awaiting news on him, as he seemed hurt. Capirossi also made a mistake and took out Elías, who was having his best race… a pity, as the veteran rider may also have hurt the shoulder that was already injured.

With this victory for Stoner, he now leaves Lorenzo 44 points behind, so things are getting complicated for the current MotoGP world champion. The next race is Japan.
