Casey Stoner and his latest news in MotoGP
Rider Casey Stoner is the centre of news, commentary and plenty of speculation, especially regarding his future in the Motorcycle World Championship.
Casey Stoner is one of the major protagonists in the build-up to the MotoGP World Championship round at the Estoril Circuit. Without a doubt, the articles, comments and news claiming that the Australian wants to retire are unsettling fans, although I think it is a bit premature to talk about retirement for a rider so young. Rather, it refers to the fact that the champion does not want to keep competing for many years, and that is why he prefers to renew for short periods.
Although these are my own assumptions, only Stoner and his father know what they are referring to. The Australian has always made it quite clear that he wants to be in his country, with his family, his farm, his tractors and his friends. Remember that a tractor brand is the personal sponsor of the MotoGP rider, so he has always shown that desire to retire. But going from there to retiring for the 2013 season seems a bit premature to me.
Stoner is in great form despite those arm pains. Last week the Australian managed to win at one of the two circuits where he had never won in the premier class, the Jerez circuit, and now, consecutively, the next one comes up, Estoril, Spanish territory for a few seasons now. Given the current situation of the track, since he did not take advantage of 2012 to win there, he will be left with that desire in the premier class, although in 250cc he did reach the top of the podium.
As if there were not enough news about the world champion, with his victory at the Andalusian track he joins the select group of riders with the most wins, entering the top 10:
- Giacomo Agostini 122
- Valentino Rossi 105
- Angel Nieto 90
- Mike Hailwood 76
- Mick Doohan 54
- Phil Read 52
- Jim Redman 45
- Max Biaggi 42
- Anton Mang 42
- Casey Stoner 41
