Carlos Checa wins the first SBK race at Misano like a champion
Rider Carlos Checa is in a state of grace, and he keeps showing why he leads the World Superbike Championship, as he has taken the victory in the first race of the day at the Misano Circuit like a champion.
The Catalan started from second place, behind Sykes, and in the first moment he lost a position to the SBK world champion Max Biaggi, who placed himself second behind the Kawasaki rider.
Before the first lap was over, the Italian had already overtaken Sykes, while Checa was also passed by Leon Haslam, who got a very good start and with plenty of determination, but the Catalan wasted no time in returning the favour and getting back to the front.
Up front Biaggi took command of the race and went off alone, while Checa began to make up ground, passing Sykes and going after the Italian, who had pulled away a little from the group, so he had to push a bit to make contact with the champion.
In a few laps the Ducati rider caught the Aprilia rider and began to study the Italian, but it didn’t take him long to overtake the champion, and after passing him he pushed his fierce pace to start opening a gap. Between Checa’s pace and an error by Biaggi, who went wide at a corner, the Catalan rode off alone.
At that point the race broke open, and Biaggi could no longer catch our Carlos, who is in a state of grace and for now takes the victory in the first race at Misano.
After that nothing else happened, the positions at the front did not change, Checa kept increasing the distance and was consistent on every lap, while Melandri moved into third place after passing Sykes and company.
As for the other Spanish riders, we had them in 9th place with Joan Lascorz and 11th with Rubén Xaus, not bad for the first race at Misano.
The scare of the day was for Leon Haslam, who crashed to the ground while he was with the leading group and stayed down. We still don’t know whether the fall had any physical consequences; we will have to wait for news from the San Marino circuit, but we hope it’s nothing.
Now we have to wait for Race 2, are you coming? want links? Then follow @plusmoto on Twitter.
