Carlos Checa the best in the Superbikes QP2 at Brno
Rider Carlos Checa has once again become the fastest in the World Superbike Championship at the Brno circuit. The Catalan could not improve his lap time from QP1, but he remained at the front of the SBK pack.
The truth is that it is a bit strange that they have not managed to lower the times in yesterday’s qualifying session, but the 1:59.322 keeps our number 7 as the fastest on the Czech track, so for now things are going well for Ducati and the championship leader.
Behind them is the home rider, Jakub Smrz, who has had a very lively weekend and at full throttle; you can feel the strength that racing at home gives the riders, so he will be a dangerous rival in the fight for Superpole and especially in the race.
Completing the front trio is Marco Melandri, who also did not improve his QP1 time, but it was enough to make the Superpole at Brno, and also to show that he has the pace to keep winning, as he already did at Motorland Aragón.
The rest of the top 10 went to Max Biaggi, who achieved fourth position in this QP2; followed by Michel Fabrizio in fifth, Eugene Laverty sixth, Noriyuki Haga seventh, Tom Sykes eighth, Leon Haslam ninth and Leon Camier tenth.
Biaggi was unable to show his full strength on this track, or perhaps he did not want to, but Brno is one of his favourite circuits, so he will fight for Superpole and also to win the Sunday races.
As for the other Spanish riders, Rubén Xaus was 17th and Joan Lascorz 19th; the pity is that both are left out of the fight for Superpole at this Brno event.
Now we will have to watch the Superpole.
