Mediterranean

Canet, Quero, Pérez and Crous the best CMVs in Catalonia

The Circuit de Catalunya hosted this past weekend the Mediterranean Speed Championship round, with its respective categories: three speed races across five categories and one endurance race were scheduled, making for a highly spectacular day of racing with plenty of on-track action and battles in every race. The first to take to the track was the Challenge 80cc category, which produced a clear winner in Aron Canet, who took pole position and dominated from start to finish.

Canet pulled away and had no rivals from midway through the race, leaving all the interest in the battle for the podium positions, which featured eight riders as protagonists. In the end, however, it was Miguel Parra of RMU Moto and Marc Alcoba of Metrakit who closed out the top positions and completed the podium, though more than 9 seconds behind the winner. The second race was the combined Pre 125 and Pre Moto3 event, with an overall victory for Borja Quero of MIR Racing/Pre Moto3, followed by Oscar Gutiérrez (MIR Racing/Pre Moto3) in second and Fabio Quartararo (RIU Moto/Pre Moto3) in third, all three being Pre Moto3 riders.

In the Pre 125 category the fastest rider was Francesc Pérez, who finished 5th overall in the race. In Supersport and Stock Extreme, Zucconi dominated from the third lap onward and held the first position until the end of the race, taking victory in Stock Extreme with a gap of more than 12 seconds over the second-placed rider in his category, Alejandro Martínez, who was fourth in the combined standings. The Supersport winner was Miquel Crous on his Yamaha, finishing second in the combined overall standings, followed by Francisco Fernández. The only disappointment was not being able to see José Terré in action, our contributor at Plusmoto.com in his “Diario de un piloto…” column; remember that in his latest adventure he explained his injury and crash.

And, as always, the Rodi Endurance race, the Catalan cup, and its LeMans-style start always impress the fans, with the winners being Dulcet and Riutort on the Suzuki, starting from third place on the grid and battling against 17 other teams, making it highly interesting on the Catalan circuit. They finally closed with a one-lap advantage over the second-placed team, formed by Creu and Chetry on their Yamaha/Suzuki/1000. The winners completed a total of 91 laps.
