Cairoli in MX1 and Herlings in MX2 dominate the World Championship in France
The MX World Championship took over French soil yesterday, with two of the most exciting motos in both MX1 and MX2, with the KTM riders, Cairoli and Herlings, dominating.
The Motocross World Championship ran its two respective motos yesterday at the sixth round of the 2012 season, in which Antonio Cairoli was once again the dominant force in the MX1 class. The KTM rider has tried to resolve the problems he had in the previous race and has made it clear that he is still there. The event took place in France, in Saint Jean D’Angely, where the MX2 class riders also competed, a class dominated by Jeffrey Herlings, so KTM is in charge at this round in France.
In the MX1 class we had a lot of excitement, although more than for the leader, for the top 5, since we had eight riders fighting for those five positions, so imagine the battle on the track. In the end, overall, Christophe Pourcel finished second and Gautier Paulin third. While Cairoli was dominating, although he had previously said he didn’t really feel comfortable with the bike, it seems that some setting changes eventually gave the KTM rider wings, achieving two spectacular starts and dominating until the end in both motos.
Behind him, Pourcel was satisfied after confessing that this French track was not one of his favourites, closing the first race in third place and the second moto from second position, so a second step on the podium was well deserved for the Frenchman on the Kawasaki. Right behind, another Kawasaki rider, Gautier Paulin, was happy with the result on a complicated and hard-fought track, finishing second in the first moto and third in the second, closing from the third step of the podium in the overall standings of the French Grand Prix.
Not bad either was Clement Desalle’s fourth place overall. The truth is it wasn’t a very easy weekend for him due to personal matters, but he fought on, achieving 4th in the first race and 5th in the second moto, finishing 4th overall. Our representative in the World Championship, Jonathan Barragán, didn’t have a great day, closing the French Grand Prix 17th in the first moto and 15th in the second, but with the desire for more, so onward to the next MX1 World Championship round.
At this point the overall championship standings have Cairoli with 253 points, followed by Pourcel with 214 points, then Desalle with 213 points, Paulin with 212 points and De Dycker 5th with 179 points.
In the MX2 class the overall winner was Jeffrey Herlings. The KTM rider dominated and is very satisfied with this result in France, since he had never achieved a final podium at this event. It was not easy for him; he had a lot of fighting with his usual rivals, Searle and Van Horebeek, and with himself.
Finally, Herlings closed the first moto from 1st position, followed by Van Horebeek 2nd and Searle 3rd, while in the second moto things did not change much, with Searle 1st, Herlings 2nd and Van Horebeek 3rd. But with Herlings as the best on the combined overall, taking the victory ahead of Searle 2nd and Van Horebeek 3rd.
Our representative had a good outing, a top 10 for José Antonio Butrón, who remains very strong in MX2 and is showing race after race that he must be taken into account. He closed the first moto from 9th position, while in the second moto he was 18th after more problems.
Right now in the overall standings of the MX2 World Championship we have Herlings with 270 points, followed by Searle with 248 points, Van Horebeek with 231 points, Roelants with 188 points and Anstie with 160 points.
On to the next MX World Championship round.
