Ben Spies Wins the SBK Double at Donington Park
Rider Ben Spies has taken the double at the Donington Park Grand Prix, while Noriyuki Haga crashed in the second race, which has cut his lead by many points, and the gap between leader Haga and Spies is now just 14 points.
In the first race, the American achieved a brilliant victory, ahead of a direct rival like Haga, and also ahead of a veteran like Max Biaggi, but the surprise is the Japanese rider, as he doesn’t have the same pace as at the start of the season; it seems Haga is not going through his best moment.
In the end, the first-race podium went to Spies, Biaggi and Haga, first, second and third respectively at the Donington Park circuit.
The second race was more of the same, with an incredible Spies who today had no rival on the British track, as he dominated the event with total comfort, especially after learning that the championship leader had crashed on the second lap.
The Checa brothers also crashed out, neither Carlos nor David had a good race, and the same goes for Rea and Biaggi, although the latter two were able to rejoin the race. Meanwhile Xaus achieved a good result in this second race, finishing ninth.
In short, Ben Spies is going straight for the lead currently held by Haga, but given how the last few races have gone, the American seems to be in better form than the Japanese rider, so there could be a surprise and a rookie could take the 2009 SBK title.
Without a doubt the end of the Championship is going to be very exciting; we will have to follow the battle between Haga and Spies closely, because anything can happen in these six remaining races.
We will keep a close eye on the SBK.
