Alex Márquez wins in Moto3 CEV at Albacete
The CEV Moto3 race ends with a win for Alex Márquez, who takes another step toward winning this championship. Amato finished second and Watanabe third at the Albacete circuit.
Once again, the circuit that gave birth to this category worldwide has delivered a thrilling Moto3 race. Today’s victory goes to Alex Márquez, rider for Monlau Competición, who we will soon see combining our national championship with the world motorcycle championship in the same category.
Alex showed great strategy in today’s race. He tried to push hard right from the start, but by the first corner Marcos Ramírez had taken the lead. The very young Andalusian rider put in a great race on a circuit he knows very well, from the categories he competed in before moving up to the CEV. Make a note of this name, because he is going to make a lot of noise. He is achieving remarkable results at just fourteen years old, and today he finished fourth.
Returning to Alex, he knew how to wait for his chance to make a move and open up a gap, helped by the fierce battle between Navarro, Arenas, Amato and Watanabe. These riders pushed to the limit for many laps and, as luck always has its say, things turned out better for some than for others.
Second place in the race went to Luca Amato, the German rider who has the help of the well-known Juan Llansà, Jorge Lorenzo’s mechanic. He put in a good race even though not everything was in place as on other occasions. He started from eleventh position, but a strong race pace and his excellent wheel-to-wheel riding carried him well up the order.
Third place went to Watanabe, the Japanese rider we had already seen several times fighting with those ahead. He even had a chance at second, but Amato, very smartly, found a way to get his bike past him.
All of this would not have happened the same way if, on the last lap, bad luck had not targeted Albert Arenas, who was running second despite struggling a lot to keep the bike on the track. It was clear that the tyres had nothing more to give, even before we reached the final laps. Well done on his race, his courage, and we wish him the same spirit in the future. Also Jorge Navarro was putting on a spectacular race, battling head to head with Arenas for second, but a few laps before the Catalan rider did, it was Navarro who went down.
The big disappointment of the day goes to the riders of WildWolf, both Josep Rodríguez and Juanfran Guevara, who will not leave this race with a good taste in their mouths. The two riders will now have to focus on the next race, which will also be here in Albacete, in a little over a month.
The top ten was completed by: Xavi Vierge 5th, John McPhee 6th, Julián Miralles 7th, Alejandro Medina 8th, Philipp Ottl 9th and Fraser Rogers 10th.
In addition, the championship standings now stand as follows:
