Alex Lowes wins Race 2 of the World Superbike Championship in Australia
Rider Alex Lowes wins Race 2 of the World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island Circuit, in Australia, followed by Bautista and Petrucci.

The World Superbike Championship has held Race 2 of the first round of the 2024 season at Phillip Island Circuit, in Australia, where we witnessed a complicated race due to the scare involving Jonathan Rea, which triggered a red flag on the Australian track.
The start was good for rider Andrea Locatelli, who took first place and pushed hard, fending off attacks from Alex Lowes, Toprak Razgatlioglu and Álvaro Bautista. On lap 3, Razgatlioglu’s race came to an end after a technical problem forced him to retire, and then came the big scare with Jonathan Rea’s crash, which triggered the red flag so the rider could be taken to the medical centre, fortunately conscious throughout the accident.
The race was restarted based on the last completed lap times of each rider, leaving the front row for Bautista, Locatelli and Andrea Iannone. Behind them came a whirlwind named Rinaldi, but he could not get past Bautista, who held the lead until the final lap of the race, when Alex Lowes got onto the 19’s tail and started a fine battle, which in the end went the Briton’s way, securing a double on this race Sunday.
Completing the podium, Bautista, who stayed close to the winner, and Petrucci, while the top 10 of this second race was completed by Iannone 4th, Bulega 5th, Rinaldi 6th, Lowes 7th, Gerloff 8th, VDMark 9th and Aegerter 10th. Vierge 13th and Rabat 16th. With these results, Lowes is the overall leader of the World Superbike Championship, followed by Bulega and Locatelli.
On to the next round.
