Alberto Moncayo fights hard at Motorland

Alberto Moncayo finishes 8th, a result that tastes a bit bitter after battling for 4th for the entire race. His teammate Oliveira had to retire after suffering a mechanical failure.

Over the 20 laps that the race lasted at this weekend’s Aragon Grand Prix, the 125cc rider Alberto Moncayo fought corner by corner to defend his position on track.

The final eighth place is bittersweet, since for almost the entire race he had been fighting for fourth place, but the last moves of the race relegated him to that 8th spot. While it is not a desired position, it does not leave a bad taste in his mouth.

His teammate, Miguel Oliveira, had no luck in the race, as he had to retire due to an engine problem, but the few laps he completed were of a high standard. When he had to pull out, he was running in a strong tenth position.

Statements from Alberto Moncayo:

It was a beautiful race, very closely contested. I would have loved to get the fourth position we were battling for in that group, but I have to admit that this eighth place doesn’t leave me unhappy. We all fought very hard for positions, and although I felt very strong in every corner, where I could pass the other riders with relative ease, I think the bike was a bit short on gearing because on top speed most of the rivals easily overtook me.

In any case, I think we did a good job, and the best part is that we are back at the same level as when I achieved third place in the Czech Republic. I’m looking forward to getting back into the fight at the three circuits coming up. Motegi, Sepang and Phillip Island are tracks I really like and where I think I can do very well.

Statements from Miguel Oliveira:

Well, the race was shorter than I expected. The bike suffered a failure and gradually lost performance, so I had to return to the pits. The positive side is that during the laps I was on track, I managed to fulfil my objective, which was to gain as many positions as possible at the start to place myself among the top ten during the race. I have to thank the mechanics, who always work to keep the bike at its best and never tire.

Statements from Pedro Machado, team director:

It was an extremely complicated race, but one of the best we have seen, a really beautiful race. The group Alberto was in was very tough, with a very high pace and riders who have won Grand Prix races. The positive side is that, although we had no luck with the final position, we fought very hard and stood up to all the members of that group.

Miguel had no luck. He made an excellent start, gaining many positions and with a very fast pace. But his eagerness got the better of him, and he made a slightly abrupt downshift that caused a minor engine failure, and he gradually lost performance.

Now it’s time to think about the upcoming races, in Japan, Malaysia and Australia, where I hope luck will be on our side and we can achieve great results.
