Villopoto wins AMA SX Arlington round as Stewart goes out

The seventh round of the AMA Supercross at Arlington gave us every possible moment, from James Stewart's breakdown at the start line, to Ryan Villopoto's untroubled, unchallenged victory, plus an intense battle between Reed and Millsaps.

The seventh round of the AMA Supercross at Arlington gave us another win for Ryan Villopoto. After a couple of rounds where he was somewhat “off” and finishing in the top 10, this time the Kawasaki rider didn’t hesitate and went all out from the start. Meanwhile, bad luck fell squarely on James Stewart once again, who saw his clutch break at the start line of the main event, forcing him to sit out the race.

The holeshot went to Millsaps, but with Villopoto glued to his rear wheel, he passed the rider from Suzuki within a single second and controlled the race from that point on. With that, the 2012 champion pulled away and opened a gap, while attention focused on the battle for second place between Reed and Millsaps, with the Suzuki rider moving ahead of the Honda rider on the third lap.

After those early battles the race settled at the front with Villopoto dominating, followed by Millsaps and Reed, while Dungey was behind them. The third place did change, though, when with 6 laps to go the KTM rider made an incredible pass on the inside of Reed. There was also an interesting fight between Brayton and Barcia for fifth place.

So victory for Villopoto, followed by Millsaps and Dungey. This result means that in the overall standings, Davi remains the leader with 154 points, followed by Dungey 21 points back and Villopoto 24 points back.

In the 250SX Eastern race we saw Dean Wilson take the win in the first round. He passed his rivals at the end of the first lap and led all 15 laps to claim his first victory of the season, ahead of Blake Wharton and Wil Hahn.
