Toni Bou returned to Barcelona yesterday after achieving another historic milestone, his tenth World Trial Championship, having consecutively accumulated 20 World Champion titles in X-Trial and outdoor Trial since 2007, undoubtedly a great event in Valchiampo (Italy).
A victory with which he celebrates ten years of success on the Repsol team Honda, in which he has been crowned champion in all twenty World Championships he has competed in wearing the colors of the energy company. At 29 years old, Toni Bou boasts an unblemished record, which he has extended this season with his victory in the 2016 World Trial Championship, after winning 11 events and finishing on the podium 3 more times in the 14 rounds held.
Toni only needed to finish among the top seven to clinch the crown on the first day of competition, but the Repsol team Honda rider secured another victory thanks to an excellent performance that gave his rivals no chance. Over the three laps of the 12-section course, Bou finished with just 13 points, 43 fewer than second-placed Adam Raga.
On the second day, we once again saw a new victory for Toni, so with this win over Adam Raga, whom he outscored by fourteen points, Bou has earned 12 of 15 this season and 89 in the World Trial Championship, 87 since competing for the Repsol team.
Statements from Toni Bou after winning the crown:
Today is a unique day, because when you win a World Championship it is something very big. It has been a complicated championship, in which I had back problems from the start. Little by little I was able to feel better and complete one of my best seasons. Today, the race was perfect, achieving victory and winning the title. I want to thank everyone who helped me achieve it, the entire team, my family and friends. This moment is very special; it is far more than I could have dreamed of. Now I am going to enjoy it, although I am also thinking about tomorrow’s race and next season, and continuing to improve.
