Thomas Luthi successfully operated on in Switzerland for his injury
Rider Thomas Luthi underwent surgery yesterday for his fractures in the arm and shoulder, the procedure being performed by his trusted doctor in Switzerland after the initial diagnoses at the 9 de Octubre Hospital in Valencia. He was then transferred to Bern to consult with his trusted medical team, so now it's time to recover and return stronger for a very demanding Moto2 season.
Rider Thomas Luthi underwent surgery yesterday morning in Bern, Switzerland, after the crash he suffered on the last day of Moto2 testing at the Valencia Circuit. It was undoubtedly bad luck for one of the favourites of this 2013 season.
Following the crash, the Interwetten Paddock rider was quickly taken to the Mobile Clinic at the Valencia track, and then transported to the 9 de Octubre Hospital in Valencia, where he was diagnosed with fractures in his right arm and shoulder. Bad news for the Swiss rider.
After confirmation of the injury, the affected area was stabilised and it was decided that the operation would take place in Switzerland with his trusted doctors. On Thursday night he was transferred to Bern, where he was operated on by Dr. Marc Mettler. The entire medical team confirmed that the procedure went well and that now they must wait to see how he progresses in these first hours.
Although the doctors have not confirmed it, the Swiss rider’s Team Manager commented to the media that recovery seems likely to be more complicated than initially expected and could take several months. This would make the start of the season difficult for the rider. We will see what the medical sources and specialists confirm on the matter.
Bad luck for the Swiss rider, who was prepared for a fiercely contested season, with several riders battling hard and with great intensity. Now we will have to see how this fracture evolves, but we wish him the best and hope he can recover in time to take part in the first race of the year in Qatar, although health always comes first.
Get well soon, Luthi.
