The Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2 riders ready for Brno

The Moto2 World Championship gets underway again this weekend after the summer break, and the Mapfre Aspar Team riders, Julián Simón and Jordi Torres, return to action at the Brno circuit.

The Czech Republic Grand Prix marks the start of the second half of the year, an event held at the giant Brno Circuit, known for its fast corners and its alternating uphill and downhill sections.

There are still eight races left to discover the winner of the second Moto2 title, and to hope that new contenders emerge for victories, such as Julián Simón, who will arrive stronger at this race, and also Jordi Torres, who is achieving good results with the Moto2.

Simón keeps accelerating his leg’s recovery. He returned in Germany and gave everything during practice, but luck turned its back on him in the race. He is still suffering from ailments, although his physical condition has improved noticeably thanks to the enormous amount of work done during the holidays. Although he is not fully recovered, he will keep fighting to be among the best.

Another rider who did not want to waste a single minute is his teammate Jordi Torres. The Catalan is aware of the importance of the opportunity he has, and for that reason he is working against the clock so as not to stop learning. In his favor is that he is a fast rider without needing slipstreams, and very consistent in his work, although he still needs to improve at the starts. That is all the incentive needed to get down to work in Brno.

Below you can see the statements from Julián Simón:

The break has done me a lot of good to strengthen all my muscles, not just those of my leg. I took the opportunity to get in better shape, because during my convalescence I had lost quite a bit of muscle tone.

It was important to recover my physical condition, since now there are quite a few races back to back, and the final stretch of the year is always more demanding. Being realistic, I am not at one hundred percent, I still need a crutch, but I’m sure that next weekend I’ll be at a better level than in Germany.

I think I still have a couple of races left to completely eliminate the discomfort. Brno is a circuit I love, last year we achieved a good result.

I arrive with great desire, I want to make up for the bad luck in Germany and finish the race no matter what. I think that by working as always and finding good feelings, we can be up front.

Statements from Jordi Torres:

I approached these three weeks of break as a challenge. I have worked hard on my cardiovascular fitness to lose weight. I am a rider with a large build, and I wanted to fine-tune a little so as not to be penalized so much, so I could fit better on the bike and so my weight would not be a burden.

I have watched a great many race videos from Brno to gather information. I have made several diagrams and taken a huge number of notes, and I am convinced they will be useful. I have also played on the console to see what the Brno Circuit is like.

Next weekend I hope to keep learning, above all to find a reference point and not to shrink back at the starts, when everyone tries to get past you.
