Pirro pole position in Moto2 at the Valencia GP
The two Gresini Racing Moto2 riders set the two fastest times in a session marked by rain.
Italian rider Pirro was the fastest in today’s qualifying session at the Valencia circuit for the Moto2 class.
The qualifying session was marked by rain, which meant that although more than 30 minutes remained, all or almost all of the riders went back into the pits until the end of the session.
I say almost all, because some brave souls dared to face the poor track conditions and went out, even if only to ride laps. The one who did this the most was Baldolini, who was later joined by Tito Rabat.
The session was so “dead” that the time was used for other things, such as making official the winner of the Moto2 class. Stefan Bradl was finally crowned champion, due to Marc Márquez not taking part because of his medical problems. By the way, Bradl qualified fourth for tomorrow’s race.
Stefan made the great gesture of going to congratulate Marc at his pit. This somewhat contrasts with Marc’s statements when he was in the clinic in Australia, when Bradl apparently did not come over to greet him or ask about him. Let’s hope this is a step forward for the German rider and that he is always just as consistent with his actions.
On the other hand, we warmly congratulate Bradl. We believe he was a worthy champion, since Marc would not have had to push so hard or fight so much if he had not set the bar so high.
In tomorrow’s race, Takahashi will start second and Mika Kallio third. Truly, apart from MotoGP, the results in Moto2 and 125cc have been somewhat unusual, as the weather conditions, with intermittent rain, have marked every session.
As for our riders, we already know Marc will not take part, and Axel Pons won’t either because of his physical problems; on Dr. Mir’s advice, he has decided not to race.
Elena Rosell has managed to qualify and will race, great news from the most fearless rider of the moment; her starting position is thirty-fifth.
The Espargaró brothers are the highest-placed of our riders, finishing 11th and 13th, Aleix in 11th and Pol in 13th. Behind them are Torres in 15th, Rabat in 18th and Julián Simón in 21st. Julito is still recovering from his injury and knows he is not at one hundred percent, but he is eager to race for his fans and for himself.
Closing the review, we find Kenny Noyes in 23rd position, Joan Olivé 32nd and Oscar Climent 34th.
