NW200 kicks off today with Seeley dominating and Maeso moving up
The North West 200 got underway today with the first practice sessions across the various categories, so there's plenty of excitement at the start, with Seeley dominating several classes while Maeso makes steady progress.
The North West 200 opened today with the first practice sessions in Ireland. This is the moment of truth for such a spectacular event, the great prelude to the Isle of Man TT, so get ready, because strong emotions are coming, bikes and plenty of riders fighting for the best positions, and among them only one of ours Antonio Maeso.
The Spanish rider is competing in the Superbike, Superstock and Supersport categories at the NW200. It is undoubtedly a very demanding challenge, but he is prepared to fight and carries with him the full support of the people who have helped him keep chasing his dream. For him, this first contact has been interesting: a first day in which he finished in SBK in 36th position, about 34.419s behind the leader, giving everything on his Martimotos machine. In the Supersport category he achieved 29th place on his Martimotos Yamaha, a good start, about 29.464s off the leader. To close his participation today in Superstock, on his BMW, he finished 32nd in this category, eager for more, about 26.968s behind the leader.
For his part, Alastair Seeley, on his Suzuki of Tyco Suzuki by TAS Racing, was the fastest in this first outing at the NW200, followed by John McGuinness on his Honda of TT Legends, 3.221s off the leader, while completing the strong trio on this first day in Ireland was William Dunlop on his Honda of Wilson Craig Racing, 5.096s behind the leader.
In the Supersport category, the best was again Alastair Seeley on his Suzuki of Tyco Suzuki by TAS Racing. He is clearly in great form and showing it from the very start. In second place was Guy Martin on his Suzuki of Tyco Suzuki by TAS Racing, so teammates are dominating this category, and he was just 0.949s behind Seeley, so everyone is very close.
Third place in SSP went to John McGuinness on his Honda of TT Legends, 2.123s behind the leader, but eager to push harder in the days ahead.
In Superstock the lead changed hands: Seeley had to settle for second on this occasion, while the fastest man at the NorthWest200 today was Ryan Farquhar on his Kawasaki for the KMR Kawasaki team, with Seeley on his Suzuki finishing 0.494s back, and John McGuinness on his Honda closing the podium about 2.167s behind the leader.
We are in for plenty of excitement, so everyone get behind Maeso and enjoy the show, the prelude to the Isle of Man is here.
