Mir and Mihara win the Rookies Cup races at Jerez

The Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup 2014 kicked off at the Jerez Circuit, where we were able to watch the first two races of the season for the promotional cup that accompanies the Motorcycle World Championship.

In the first race, held on Saturday, we saw Japan’s Mihara Soushi take victory on the Andalusian track, ahead of one of the favorites for this season, Jorge Martín, with Manuel Pagliani completing the podium. Mihara showed great determination, since he started from 12th place and had to work hard to join the leading riders. The Japanese rider achieves his first victory in the promotional cup; until yesterday, his best result was fifth place at the Brno Circuit last season.

The top 10 of that first race was Mir 4th, Manzi 5th, Binder 6th, Masia 7th, Bensneyder 8th, Ray 9th and Simpson 10th. It was unfortunate that Óscar Gutiérrez crashed, but luckily he suffered no physical consequences.

The second race went to Joan Mir. The young Spanish rider managed to win at home, a real milestone in front of his fans. We saw a very intense battle between Mir and Pagliani, but in the end the 16-year-old rider was the winner of the event, overtaking his rival on the last lap and leaving his pursuer 0.334s behind.

The third man in this race was Jorge Martín, who in this way achieves two podiums in the first two races, but who finished well behind the two leading riders, specifically 1.698s behind the winner. The top 10 of this second race ended with Manzi 4th, Binder 5th, Bensneyder 6th, Gutiérrez 7th, Razgatlioglu 8th, Mihara 9th and Simpson 10th. Masia 13th and García 16th.

With these results, Mir leads the standings with 38 points, followed by Pagliani with 36 points and Martín also with 36 points.
