The Moto3 World Championship has kicked off the racing action at this final event of the 2013 season at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia, where we have witnessed a truly intense race, with our three riders on fire and ready to make plenty of noise: Salom, Viñales and Rins, the great champions of the season.
The start was very good for Salom, who took the lead, but with Viñales and Folger glued to his rear wheel, and then we saw the 25 finally take the first position, while Rins had some problems in those first few meters, and watched Folger slip past him, with Márquez at the back and Miller close behind.
After those first few meters we saw Viñales trying to break away from the group, meanwhile Rins overtook Folger and got on the tail of his opponents. So the three at the front are the protagonists of this Moto3 World Championship, but just when it seemed they were going to break away and leave, we saw Folger and Miller not falling behind, although they didn’t get too involved in the battle in these first laps.
While Salom and Viñales have had some overtaking moves between them, Rins has tried to keep calm after a scare, and study his rivals for a very strong finish. Past the halfway mark of the race we saw the battle between Salom and Viñales again, and also Rins’ first incursion into the action, overtaking Salom and moving into second place.
And when we were entering the last 10 laps, what nobody expected happened: Salom crashed out alone, without anyone touching him. It’s a real shame that the 39 couldn’t fight until the end with his rivals, leaving the title in the hands of Viñales and Rins.
The last 5 laps were incredible, with Jack Miller also out of the race, the group of 5 that had dominated the first laps was now down to just 3, with two of the riders fighting for the title, and Folger as the protagonist alongside them. Maximum tension and maximum excitement, everything to play for between the 42 and the 25, while Salom rejoined the track, but in the back positions.
The key was in the final corners. Rins went in, but went a bit too wide and Mack passed him on the inside again, while Folger took his chance by slipstream and slipped past Álex. For his part, Mack came in first, taking his title, his first world crown, and all this when the 25 was the rider with the fewest points, the fewest options, the fewest wins, but in Japan the chance to fight all the way to Valencia became possible and finally the 25 has triumphed before making the big jump to Moto2.
Brilliant race: the 25 was the most consistent, scoring in almost every race, he was unique, and when it was needed he gave everything. Without doubt a magical day, a spectacular race, and a trio that left us with some incredible racing, OLÉ Rins, Viñales and Salom. But today we must congratulate MACK, SuperMack, World Champion in Moto3.
The top 10 was completed with Viñales 1st, Folger 2nd, Rins 3rd, Márquez 4th, Vázquez 5th, Masbou 6th, I. Viñales 7th, Carrasco 8th, Oettl 9th and 10th Oliveira. The rest of ours finished as follows: Salom 14th, Navarro 22nd and Guevara 23rd.
Incredible race. Viñales Champion; Rins runner-up and Salom 3rd.
