Maverick Viñales injures a finger on his right hand at Jerez
Today we received bad news from the Jerez Circuit: rider Maverick Viñales had a nasty crash in the first session of the day at the Andalusian track and injured the ring finger of his right hand. As a result, the Catalan had to end the Moto3 test at the Jerez circuit early and is heading to Barcelona to consult Dr. Xavier Mir about the extent of this minor setback.
Today we received bad news from the Jerez Circuit, as one of the favourites for the Moto3 World Championship, Maverick Viñales, crashed in session 1 of the test at the Andalusian track, and it was quite a heavy one with physical consequences for the young Catalan rider, who had to end this last test before the start of the season and immediately fly to Barcelona to visit Dr. Xavier Mir.
So it was bad luck for the Team Calvo rider, who was setting some very strong times, as demonstrated by the fact that he was the fastest on this third day despite not taking part in the last two sessions of the day. Apparently the crash happened at the Crivillé corner, one of the fastest areas of the circuit, and unfortunately his right hand got trapped under the bike, causing a serious injury to the ring finger, with loss of the nail and also of tissue.
Right now he is boarding a plane to Barcelona to put himself in the hands of Dr. Mir, who was a little worried after seeing the first photos of the injury, but he needs to examine it properly to give a clearer diagnosis and to determine whether surgery will be necessary or not.
Statements from Maverick Viñales #25 – 1’46.603:
On the one hand I am happy because we have done a great pace and worked a lot and well. Every day I feel more comfortable on the bike and the connection with the team is very good. But on the other hand the crash was a shame. Now it’s time to stay calm and recover as best I can so I can get back on the gas in Qatar.
