Rider Marco Melandri has claimed victory in the World Superbike Championship at the Brno Circuit in the first race, so the Italian scores very important points with Biaggi out of the picture and Checa struggling with problems.
Rider Marco Melandri has claimed victory in the World Superbike Championship at the Brno Circuit, in the first race. Although it was not easy, he had a lot of work ahead of him on a track and in very difficult conditions.
Melandri had to rise above the situation, and try not to push too hard given the track conditions, with many damp patches that made riding difficult and complicated everything.
Behind him, Tom Sykes finished, the Kawasaki Racing Team rider led for many laps, but he could not finish it off and ended up 2nd, just ahead of his teammate Loris Baz and 1.360s behind the winner.
For Sykes, it has once again been difficult; he cannot hold on at the front, although this time it all came down to the contact with Jonathan Rea, which was terrible for the Northern Irishman and cost Sykes the victory. Still, Tom scores points and another important podium, with a surprising Baz reaching the podium for the first time.
For his part, Carlos Checa claimed fourth place after a most difficult weekend, but he was ultimately able to improve the situation and finish 4th, ahead of Eugene Laverty in 5th and Max Biaggi in 6th. It was not a good day for the Italian either, who could not get to the front and make his presence felt.
The top 10 was completed by Haslam in 7th, Fabrizio in 8th, Berger in 9th and Smrz in 10th. Meanwhile, David Salom had problems again, despite a great qualifying and being on superpole, but today this first race did not go well, with a pit lane entry and finishing from 18th position.
There were several crashes, including Rea, Mercado, Aoyama, Giugliano and Badovini, fortunately with no physical consequences for any of them.
More in the next race.
