Marc Coma wins the Rally of Sardinia
Rider Marc Coma has won the Rally of Sardinia, proving that he is one of the great raid riders, as he dominated the third points-scoring round of the FIM World Rally-Raid Championship from start to finish, building a lead of more than 8 minutes over the runner-up.
The Catalan has therefore become the champion of the 23rd edition of this rally, in a final day that was very demanding, with the route being the main protagonist due to its difficulty, just like the other areas where the previous stages were held.
In this way, Coma crowns himself at this event, where last season he had to retire after a crash while he was leading the standings. This time he has achieved his goal and takes victory in this demanding event.
Behind him, Mancini and Cyril Despres finished, the two riders who joined Coma on the podium, but they could not keep up with him on the track. This time the Catalan was too strong to be stopped, and they had to settle for second and third place respectively.
For his part, Jordi Viladoms, who made his debut with his new team at this rally, achieved a very positive fourth place, especially considering that he is still adapting to his new machine and circumstances. He was also unlucky, as a crash led to an 8-minute penalty; had it not been for that, he would have finished second on his debut.
Below you can see the statements from Marc Coma:
When something is going well, don’t change it. I am very happy, with myself, with the team, with the people who support us and with all the sponsors who make all of this possible.
I want to dedicate this victory to a very special person, who has helped us a great deal these past few days and whose enormous contribution I am deeply grateful for: Luca Manca.
It has been a really tough rally. Most of the stages were very technical and required a lot of navigational skill, which did not make the victory easy in any way. We have been very consistent, and I believe as a team we have done an excellent job; the result speaks for itself.
I am leaving the island with a very good taste in my mouth. Thank you all!
We will keep an eye on the Rallies.
